Technical Description:
With an increased emphasis on water quality improvement and softer approaches to watershed protection, the Southern Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) along with the city of San Diego hired RBF Consulting to determine a sound flood protection channel. Additionally, RBF needed to consider other sensitive environmental concerns.
The Valencia Palms Business Park, a development by SEDC, is being constructed alongside Chollas Creek through the heart of Lincoln Park in San Diego. Designed for the Q100, ArmorFlex Class 40L was chosen as the preferred hard armor revetment system.
The Class 40L block has an approximate open area of 20 percent that allows for ample native vegetation to thrive. In turn, the native vegetation provides a natural, softer looking channel and increases the water quality benefits. The project was completed in 2002, and the development of the business park continues to grow and expand.
