Continental® Pedestrian Truss

Innovative Designs, Rapid Installation. Continental pedestrian truss structures range from basic structures to unique custom solutions. With clear spans to 250 feet and more, Continental bridges are ideal for crossings over highways, railroad tracks, rivers and wetlands.

Truss Options

Connector® Truss

The Connector is one of the most familiar truss designs for both pedestrian and vehicular bridges. The standard Connector designs reach over a 200-foot clear span range for pedestrian and a 150-foot clear span range for vehicular. The Connector style truss features a parallel top and bottom chord and is available in both flat designs or cambered up to 1% of the span length.

Keystone® Truss

The parabolic curve is one of the most efficient structural designs known in bridge engineering. It is also one of the most timeless. The classic appearance of the Keystone truss bridge is frequently used in residential and commercial settings where aesthetics dictate the bridge style. With clear spans up to 150 feet for vehicular and 250 feet for pedestrian, the Keystone style is one of our most popular designs. The depth at the center is usually 10% of the clear span. With longer spans, the center depth may be reduced to 7% of the span.

Capstone® Truss

The Capstone truss is designed for projects requiring a long span bridge with limited approach depth. The truss height of Capstone varies to allow a low-abutment backwall for improved hydraulic efficiency. Capstone is an ideal solution for longer spans of up to 150 feet for vehicular and 250 feet for pedestrian.

Gateway® Truss

The Gateway style is a popular truss design for pedestrian bridges. It utilizes the stability of the box girder for longer spans up to 240 feet. This design is particularly useful in highway and railroad overpasses. In the custom design phase, all variables are considered, including unusual alignments, grade differences, switchbacks and cantilevers, as well as special architectural treatments, glazing requirements, pre-wired electrical systems and custom paint finishes. This Gateway style of pedestrian bridge has often been used for building walkways and other overpass bridges, and can be custom designed to match any architectural requirement and provide superior aesthetic appeal.

Link® Truss

The Link style is an attractive companion to the Connector design. The X brace panels add to the symmetry and beauty of the bridge design. The Link style is available in spans up to 220 feet for pedestrian and up to 150 feet for vehicular.

Archway® Truss

The Archway pedestrian truss style combines the architectural appeal of a traditional arch design with the engineering practicality of open clearance above the bridge deck and exceptional strength below. Archway bridges feature a cambered bottom chord to emphasize the arch design. Archway series bridges are frequently custom designed for superior aesthetic appeal.

Expressway® Pedestrian Truss

The Expressway pedestrian truss design offers a low rail height and is ideal for golf course use. This rugged design also provides the needed capacity for maintenance vehicles.

Cable-Stayed Pedestrian Truss

Towering architectural distinction is also cost-effective with the Cable-Stayed truss. Engineered for bridge lengths from 200 to 400 feet, Continental offers many tower variations for unique architectural statements; tower heights are approximately one-fourth of the main span length. The most economical end spans are approximately one-half the length of the main span. The bridge truss itself is very lightweight, and, as installed, appears to be floating.

Steel Stringer Truss

The Steel Stringer bridge style is an economical alternative for bridge replacements and short span bridges up to 80 feet. A Steel Stringer (or beam span bridge) can utilize existing bridge abutments where feasible and can accommodate heavy vehicle loading. Steel Stringer bridges can be built to virtually any width and then sectionalized for shipment.

Pony Truss

The Continental Pony truss is a highly cost-effective option for bridge spans ranging up to 80 feet. The side trusses act as the handrail system, allowing an unobstructed view with no overhead members.

Typical handrail heights (the distance from the top of the deck to the top of the chord) are either 42 inches or 54 inches. The "U" frame approach minimizes the top-of-deck to underside-of-steel dimension. Usually shipped in one piece for spans up to 80 feet, installation is as easy as removing the bridge from the truck and setting it in place.

Continental Pedestrian Bridges for Skywalks

The custom designs, lightweight strength, long clear spans, and elegant designs of our custom prefabricated truss bridges make them the best way to get pedestrians safely where they’re going. Continental skywalks connect hospitals, stadiums and malls to parking garages and carry pedestrians over busy roads in many other scenarios.

Continental Bridges for Conveyor and Pipe Support

Continental truss bridges can function as pipe or conveyor support systems or for a variety of material handling needs.

Truss Bridges for Stream and Wetland Crossings

Longer clear spans minimize the use of piers or immediate supports. Therefore Continental pedestrian bridges and our Steadfast vehicular structures are an ideal solution for crossing sensitive areas and wetlands with little or no impact on the environment. Lack of piers also leads to improved hydraulic efficiency.

Truss Structures for Bridge Replacement

Pre-engineered Truss structures provide fast-track solutions for bridge replacement projects with quick installation – saving both time and money. These prefabricated truss structures are often installed in just one to three days.

Continental Bridges for Pedestrian Crossings

Continental truss bridges provide the perfect solution for a basic foot bridge or a large overpass bridge. Prefabricated golf course bridges can be installed quickly with minimal disruption to course play. Trail and bicycle bridges have also been widely used to enhance recreational areas and link greenway systems.
