UrbanGreen Pretreatment

Proven Pollutant Removal

Pretreating stormwater prior to storage protects downstream pumps, filters and fixtures from damage or clogging, and lowers cleaning and maintenance costs by keeping pollutants out of the cistern and mechanical system. It also reduces the amount of organic matter and biological oxygen demand (BOD) in the cistern, decreasing the likelihood of creating anaerobic conditions and associated odors.

Treatment and Disinfection

Features

  • Filtration: Most common type of treatment; typically filter 10-20-micron particles, then 2-5-micron particles
  • UV: Best for applications where water will be used immediately, such as irrigation
  • Chlorination: Commonly used for applications that require residual disinfection capability and is common for non-irrigation applications

SS Credit 6.1 – Stormwater Quantity Control, 1 Point

Intent – Limit disruption of natural hydrology by reducing impervious cover, increasing on-site infiltration, reducing or eliminating pollution from stormwater runoff and eliminating contaminants.

  • Capturing runoff and storing for reuse keeps water on site, reducing runoff completely

SS Credit 6.2 – Stormwater Quality Control, 1 Point

Intent – Limit disruption and pollution of natural water flows by managing stormwater runoff.

Potential contribution: UrbanGreen Rainwater Harvesting Systems
  • Stop pollutants from leaving your site by storing runoff and reusing for irrigation or other nonpotable application

WE Credit 1 – Water Efficient Landscaping, 2-4 Points

Intent – Limit or eliminate the use of potable water or other natural surface or subsurface water resources available on or near the project site for landscape irrigation. Reduce by 50% (2 points) or eliminate (4 points).

  • Create water efficient landscaping by harvesting rainwater for re-use

WE Credit 2 – Innovative Wastewater Technologies, 2 Points

Intent – Reduce wastewater generation and potable water demand (50% reduction) while increasing the local aquifer recharge through the use of nonpotable water or on-site wastewater treatment.

Potential contribution: UrbanGreen Rainwater Harvesting System
  • Capture and re-use water for nonpotable applications like toilet flushing, process water, wash water, etc.

WE Credit 3 – Water Efficiency, 2-4 Points

Intent – Further increase water efficiency within buildings to reduce the burden on municipal water supply and wastewater systems. Reduce by 30% (2 points), reduce by 35% (3 points) or reduce by 40% (4 points).

  • Reuse harvested rainwater for nonpotable water applications such as toilet flushing

MR Credit 4 – Recycled Content, 1-2 Points

Intent – Increase the demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials. The sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 10% (1 point) or 20% (2 points), based on cost, of the total value of the materials in the project.


RP Credit 1 - Regional Priority

Intent - Provide an incentive for the achievement of credits that address geographically-specific environmental priorities.
