Rutter’s Farm Stores is a chain of convenience stores/gas stations with over sixty locations in the northeastern United States. Rutter’s Farm opened a new location in Strasburg, Pennsylvania that included nine fuel pumps and a 14-table dine-in area. Because of this new construction, Rutter’s Farm had to deal with the runoff created by the area surrounding the gas pumps and the attached store and parking lot.

The new location called for a stormwater system to capture runoff from the building’s roof and other impervious surfaces. Engineers from LSC Design selected the Terre Arch system from Contech. Terre Arch is a modular, multi-chambered, precast concrete stormwater storage system engineered for underground installation. Terre Arch provides an HS-25 load rating, making it ideal for locating underneath parking lots.

The design of the detention system had to fit within a very unique sized footprint. Engineers from LSC Design worked with Contech to design two separate systems, each containing 39 arches. The first system used six distribution boxes, while the second system used eight distribution boxes.

Because of its modular design, the Terre Arch system is quick and easy to install. The construction crew was able to lay both of the systems in just one day. A Contech Field Consultant was on site for the complete installation of the systems.

In the end, Contech was not only able to offer a cost-effective solution, but also one with fast turnaround, offering a quick installation for the crew to continue to the next stage of construction.
