The Magellan system uses proven primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes to treat various wastewater influent levels. Treatment System Configurations

The Magellan system uses a proven process to treat wastewater influent levels from clustered residential, to light industrial, to small municipal flows, and includes the following:

  • Moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR)

SS Credit 3 – Brownfield Redevelopment, 1 Point

Intent – Rehabilitate damaged sites where development is complicated by environmental contamination and reduce pressure on undeveloped land.

SS Credit 5.2 - Site Development, Maximize Open Space, 1 Point

Intent – To provide a high ratio of open space to development footprint to promote biodiversity.

  • Developments utilizing a Magellan wastewater treatment system permit greater clustering opportunities, resulting in maximum open space potential.

MR Credit 4 – Recycled Content, 1-2 Points

Intent – Increase the demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials. The sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 10% (1 point) or 20% (2 points), based on cost, of the total value of the materials in the project.

  • The Magellan wastewater treatment system is constructed utilizing steel reinforcing ribs having 50-80% recycled content by weight.

MR Credit 5.1 – Regional Materials, 1-2 Points

Intent – Increase demand for building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured locally to a job site in hopes to reduce the environmental impact that would result from transporting these goods. Products manufactured, extracted and recycled within 500 miles of the project site for a minimum of 10% (1 point) or 20% (2 points), based on cost of the total materials value.

WE Credit 1 – Water Efficient Landscaping, 2-4 Points

Intent – Limit or eliminate the use of potable water or other natural surface or subsurface water resources available on or near the project site for landscape irrigation. Reduce by 50% (2 points) or eliminate (4 points).

  • Disposal options for the clean effluent from the Magellan wastewater treatment system include surface or subsurface distribution, either of which can be used for landscaping irrigation, thus reducing or eliminating the use of potable water for this purpose.

 

WE Credit 2 – Innovative Wastewater Technologies, 2 Points

Intent – Reduce wastewater generation and potable water demand (50% reduction) while increasing the local aquifer recharge through the use of nonpotable water or on-site wastewater treatment.

  • The Magellan wastewater treatment system can be configured to include ultraviolet disinfection systems and biological nutrient removal processes to polish the effluent to tertiary treatment standards as needed for recharging aquifers.

WE Credit 3 – Water Efficiency, 2-4 Points

Intent – Further increase water efficiency within buildings to reduce the burden on municipal water supply and wastewater systems. Reduce by 30% (2 points), reduce by 35% (3 points) or reduce by 40% (4 points).

  • The Magellan wastewater treatment system can be configured to include ultraviolet disinfection systems and biological nutrient removal processes to polish the effluent to tertiary treatment standards. Wastewater treated to this level can be utilized in dual-plumbing buildings for such beneficial uses as toilet and urinal flushing and certain custodial uses.

RP Credit 1 - Regional Priority

Intent - Provide an incentive for the achievement of credits that address geographically-specific environmental priorities.
